Days to Maturity: 85
So improved over older varieties that it's almost an entirely new plant, Tango Hybrid delivers yields and flavor like you've never seen before! The stalks are wonderfully crunchy and sweet, springing up from exceptionally vigorous, robust plants. Tolerance of Fusarium's makes all the difference in the yields, which are superb. And they mature early, giving you a few more weeks of delicious celery-eating every season. If you have never had much luck with celery before, give Tango Hybrid a try!
Celery is not a "plant-it-and-forget-it" vegetable, but with relatively little effort, you will harvest stalks that are infinitely more tender and flavorful than store-bought varieties. If you have a very moist, boggy location, all the better. If not, just remember to water the growing plants frequently and consistently.
Sow celery seeds indoors about 10 to 12 weeks before last frost date. Plant the seedlings 1 foot apart in trenches 6 inches deep, filling the trenches with soil as the plants grow. During growth, keep the seedlings shaded and consistently moist, and fertilize regularly with a 5-10-10 solution. This will improve both the flavor and yields of your plants. If you want to blanch the plants for white-stalked celery, simply shade them.
