Product Description
How to Grow Lotus Seeds:
Scarification:
Lotus seeds have a hard outer coating that needs to be nicked or filed to allow water absorption and trigger germination.
Gently rub the seed with sandpaper or use a nail file to create a small opening in the seed coat. Be careful not to damage the inner seed.
Soaking:
Place the scarified seeds in a container filled with lukewarm water (around 75-85°F or 24-29°C).
Change the water daily to prevent bacterial growth.
The seeds should swell and start to sprout within a few days.
Planting:
Once the seeds have sprouted, prepare a container without drainage holes.
Fill the container with heavy clay soil mixed with a small amount of sand. This provides a nutrient-rich base for the lotus to grow.
Gently press the sprouted seeds into the soil, about an inch deep, ensuring the sprout is facing upward.
Space the seeds a few inches apart to allow for growth.
Water:
Fill the container with water until it covers the soil by a few inches. Place the container in a sunny location. Lotus plants thrive in full sunlight.
Care:
Change the water regularly to prevent stagnation and algae growth.
As the plants grow, gradually increase the water level.
