Everyone loves a zucchini in disguise, and Sunstripe is absolutely radiant with its gold-on-yellow stripes, its smooth and glowing skin, and its long, uniform size. Ready to harvest at just 4 inches long for "baby zukes" or eager to mature to full 8-inch length, this British introduction is a must-have for plate appeal and toothsome bite.

Sunstripe arises on spineless stems, which makes picking them ouch-free and easy. The plant reaches about 18 inches high and spreads 3 feet wide, with generous yields every time. If you grow a lot of green veggies in your garden, you'll love the sight of these sunny cylinders growing and ripening in summer!

And after you harvest Sunstripe, you'll be pleased with its ability to stay fresh. It won't lose a jot of its texture, color, or flavor if you have to postpone eating it for a week or more. That's especially good news at the end of the season, when zucchini and other summer squashes are harvesting like crazy and you're trying to keep up with them all!

In addition to its long fruit, which grows straight with a slight bulge at one end, Sunstripe sets big golden flowers which are also edible. Even the foliage gets into the "sun," sporting gold markings that dress up the vegetable garden or your Three Sisters planting very nicely.

Sow seeds 1 inch deep directly into the garden after the danger of frost is past. (The rule of thumb is 2 seeds per hole.) Thin the seedlings to 24 inches apart, or plant 4 to 5 seeds together in hills 4 feet apart and then thin to 2 plants per hill. For even earlier harvests, start seeds indoors and transplant into the garden as soon as the soil warms in spring. Pkt is 20 seeds.
