Developed in New Zealand, Gala Apple is a great-tasting import and one of the most popular eating apples. The large, shapely fruits have red-orange streaks over a golden background, and the crisp white flesh has a delicious, tangy-sweet flavor. This all-purpose apple is great for eating fresh, and also for cooking, baking into desserts, and canning. The fruits ripen in mid-September. Gala Apple Trees can self-pollinate, but can pollinate with other apple trees such as Liberty, Fuji, and Goldrush. 500 chill hours are required for a successful harvest. Zones 4-8.
