Marigold Mango Tango is a compact, bushy annual plant that grows to about 8 to 10 inches tall and 6 inches wide—perfect for small-space gardens and patio pots. A long and heavy bloomer, Mango Tango sets eye-catching, anemone-shaped, semi-double blooms throughout summer and fall, typically to first frost. A high contrast bicolor, its uniform blooms flaunt deep shades of red and yellow. The flowers make cute cuts for kitchen table bouquets, but left in the garden, they attract pollinators, including hummingbirds and butterflies.
A Tagetes patula cultivar, commonly called French marigold or simply marigold, Mango Tango can be grown as an annual in Zones 2-11. French marigolds are great for low edging or containers, but they are often grown in vegetable gardens and perennial gardens as they repel whiteflies and kill nematodes.
Marigolds are easy to grow and low maintenance. They tolerate humidity very well and resist deer. Marigolds are generally pest and disease free too. Mango Tango is a strong variety with exceptional heat and cold tolerance. It grows best in a sunny to partly sunny location with evenly moist, freely draining soil. For best results, fertilize every other week throughout the growing season.
In spring, after the last frost, sow marigold seed directly into warm garden soil, spacing seeds 6 inches apart. Or start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost and transplant after all threat of frost has passed.
